I’m so glad there is still a copy of this around.
Thanks for a very cool and unique experience in my sobriety.
On the serious side, much thanks to you and Jack for sharing Jack’s story. It is uplifting to hear that Jack has been sober for a good while, and my sincerest hopes and prayers to Jack to keep winning that battle. Wishing the best for everyone out there who is battling addiction.
As for the notion that addiction is explained as an avoidance, I think that this may have some truth some of the time, but a singular paradigm explanation of addiction is IMO inaccurate. There are many angles of consideration in explaining addiction. For example, for some the angle of impulse control and difficulty with that may be more fitting than the angle of avoidance, and the whys of impulse control may be multi tiered. Addiction and it’s whys are a complicated conversation.
Ultimately, if Jack viewing his addiction in terms of avoidance and of learning to confront emotions works for him, then I certainly support what is working for him.
Thank you for this episode, Jack’s is a story of hope to rally behind, and it also serves as a great launching place for a more in depth conversation about addiction.
Great job Shey, I loved the music. Your Bob Dylan impression was very Mitch Hedberg. As for addiction being about avoiding the content of one’s mind, I will contemplate that over a cylinder of marijuana. Best wishes !
